Big Catalpa is part of a rotational IPA series that celebrates Boise’s Tree Captains and the Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge. This is the full bloom expression of Woodland Empire’s City of Trees IPA. Just as the sturdy branches of the majestic Catalpa support copious budding flowers, a bigger ABV supports abundant dry-hop additions of choice Idaho and Northwest hops.

In 2024, this collaboration raised $1,000 and helped plant 30 catalpa trees across Treasure Valley, growing a greener and healthier community!

$15 from each keg and $1 from each 4-pack was donated to the Treasure Valley Canopy Network during its release from June through November.

As partners invested in building healthy and thriving neighborhoods across Boise and beyond, Treasure Valley Canopy Network and Woodland Empire are excited to announce this partnership to bring more attention to the beauty and benefits of trees across Treasure Valley, Idaho. We anticipate periodic releases of beer & tree stories that will: (1) raise awareness about the trees that make up Boise's urban forest, and (2) raise funding to help support the Boise Tree Captains Program and the Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge -- a community-driven effort to plan for, plant and grow one tree for every household in Boise (100,000 urban trees) by 2030.
