Air Quality Benefits
Air quality is one of the most critical issues in the Treasure Valley. This airshed has exceeded limits set by the EPA for Particulate Matter (PM) and is in danger of reaching non-attainment for ozone (O3) in the near future. A non-attainment designation can lead to compromised public health, diminished economic growth, new and costly regulations, and a potential loss of federal highway funds.
The Treasure Valley's Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) removes 581 tons of air pollutants annually, which translates to an annual value of $7 million in reduced adverse human health impacts.
